The legendary Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram believed the Indian squad would visit his country for the February 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
India’s chances of attending the event in Pakistan are limited, given the BCCI has not sent the team there in almost a decade.
In the latest example, India vowed to boycott the Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan. India played all their matches, including the knockouts, in Sri Lanka, which co-hosted the tournament.
What did Wasim Akram say about India visiting Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025?
Wasim Akram told the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) regarding Pakistan hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 and India’s participation.
Due to India’s intention to avoid bilateral series with Pakistan due to cross-border terrorism, there have been concerns about India not playing in the event.
Akram, who was part of the Pakistani teams who welcomed Team India, hoped the prohibition might be repealed so supporters could see the Indian team play at their fields again.
“India should visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. Everyone is excited to welcome all nations. A spectacular greeting awaits. Excellent cricket will be played “said.
Over the years, Pakistan’s domestic T20 league, the Pakistan Super League (PSL), has attracted international stars and upgraded stadiums. He hoped all teams, including India, will visit Pakistan for bilateral and ICC events.
We have good facilities, new stadiums are being developed, and the chairman is refurbishing Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad ” I think it would be a terrific event, and Pakistan needs it for international cricket, therefore I hope all teams travel us.”
Akram, like his old teammate Shahid Afridi, advised the Indian squad to play in Pakistan instead of hybrid sites like they did at the Asia Cup 2023.
Cricket and politics should be separate. Despite not knowing the system, Pakistan is ready to receive every team, dignitaries, fans, and media “Akram added.
When will ICC Champions Trophy 2025 be held?
The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy will be held February 19–March 9. Pakistan will host the eight-team game among the top seven ODI World Cup 2023 teams after being ousted in the group stage.
