New Zealand cricketer Glenn Phillips stunned everyone with an incredible catch to dismiss Virat Kohli in the Champions Trophy 2025 match in Dubai. However, social media saw a hilarious mix-up as some fans targeted the wrong Philips for Kohli’s dismissal.
Indian Fans Mistakenly Blame Philips Company
India suffered early setbacks against New Zealand, losing three top-order batters within seven overs. Kohli, fresh from a century against Pakistan, attempted a cut shot off Matt Henry, only for Glenn Phillips to take a flying one-handed catch at backward point. The catch left Indian fans shocked as India stumbled to 34/3 in 6.4 overs.
While many praised Phillips for his stunning effort, some enraged fans mistakenly directed their anger at Philips India, a Dutch electronics company. One fan unknowingly posted on Philips India’s social media page, questioning them about Kohli’s dismissal.
Social Media Frenzy Over The Confusion
The mix-up led to humorous reactions online. One fan even commented on Philips India’s Instagram, calling Kohli “his father,” further adding to the amusement. The incident soon went viral, with many users clarifying the confusion and laughing at the mistaken identity.

India Recovers After Early Collapse
Despite early troubles, India’s middle order fought back. Shreyas Iyer (79), Axar Patel (42), and Hardik Pandya (45) helped India reach 249/9 in 50 overs. On the bowling front, Matt Henry was outstanding, taking 5 wickets for 42 runs.
At the time of writing, New Zealand was at 128/3 in 31 overs, with Kane Williamson (61)* and Tom Latham (13)* steadying the chase.
