Tanveer Singh Sangha, born on November 26, 2001, in Liverpool, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, is a professional cricketer specializing as a right-arm leg-spin bowler and right-handed batsman. He represents Australia in international cricket and plays domestically for New South Wales and the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (BBL).
Early Life and Background
Tanveer’s father, Joga Singh, emigrated from Rahimpur village near Jalandhar, Punjab, India, to Australia in 1997. Joga works as a taxi driver in Sydney, while Tanveer’s mother, Upjeet Kaur, is an accountant. He has an elder sister named Simran. Raised in a Punjabi Sikh family, Tanveer was encouraged by his father to engage in various sports, including rugby, kabaddi, volleyball, football, and cricket. He attended East Hills Boys High School in Panania, Sydney.
Domestic Career
Tanveer began his cricket journey with local clubs such as Ingleburn RSL Cricket Club and Liverpool Catholic Club, where he initially played as a fast bowler and opening batsman. He later transitioned to leg-spin bowling, a move that defined his career. He made his first-class debut for New South Wales on October 27, 2021, against Victoria in the Sheffield Shield, taking 3 wickets for 44 runs in the first innings. His List A debut followed on November 24, 2021, in the Marsh Cup, where he impressed with figures of 4 wickets for 21 runs.
Big Bash League (BBL)
In the 2020-21 BBL season, representing Sydney Thunder, Tanveer emerged as the third-highest wicket-taker, securing 21 wickets at an average of 16.66. His performances garnered praise from cricketing figures, including West Indies’ Andre Russell, who lauded his fearless bowling.
International Career
Tanveer represented Australia in the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, finishing as the team’s leading wicket-taker with 15 wickets. In January 2021, he received a call-up to Australia’s T20I squad for the series against New Zealand. He made his T20I debut on August 30, 2023, against South Africa, and his ODI debut on September 12, 2023, against the same team. In August 2023, he was named in Australia’s preliminary squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

In 2022, Tanveer suffered a stress fracture in his back, sidelining him for approximately six months. He utilized this period to enhance his skills, including a training stint at the MRF Academy in Chennai in August 2022.
