Mark Sinclair Chapman was born on 27 June 1994 in British Hong Kong, now Hong Kong. His father, Peter Chapman, worked as a crown prosecutor for the Hong Kong Government, while his mother, Anne Chapman, was involved in the financial sector. Mark spent his early years in Hong Kong, attending Island School before moving to New Zealand to study at King’s College and later the University of Auckland, where he earned a degree in Engineering.

Cricket Career Beginnings

Mark’s cricket journey started at a young age with the Hong Kong Cricket Club. He made his debut for the Hong Kong Under-15 side when he was just 11 years old. By 15, he was part of the Hong Kong Under-19 team, participating in the 2010 Under-19 World Cup. His impressive performance in the 2011 Division Three tournament against the USA highlighted his potential, finishing as the highest run-scorer and leading Hong Kong to victory.

International Debut and Achievements

Hong Kong Cricket Team

Mark debuted in T20 International for Hong Kong on 15 November 2013 against Italy during the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier. He played his first ODI on 16 November 2015 against UAE in Dubai, scoring an unbeaten 124, making him the first Hong Kong player to score an ODI century. His remarkable debut also placed him as the first player from associate nations to score a century on their ODI debut.

New Zealand Cricket Team

In 2018, Mark transitioned to representing New Zealand. His T20 International debut for New Zealand was on 13 February 2018 against England in Wellington. Later that month, he made his ODI debut for New Zealand on 28 February against England at Mount Maunganui.
