Jasprit Bumrah Misses Champions Trophy 2025 Due to Injury
India’s star fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, will not play in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He suffered a lower back injury during the 5th Test against Australia in Sydney. Due to this, he could not bowl in the second innings.
The BCCI confirmed that Bumrah was unable to recover in time. He was at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for treatment, but his injury did not heal as expected. When India first announced their squad, Bumrah was included. However, his injury forced the selectors to make a late change.
- Jasprit Bumrah is ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury.
- Harshit Rana replaces him in the squad.
- India’s first match is against Bangladesh on February 20.
Harshit Rana Joins the India Squad
The BCCI has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement. Harshit Rana, a young fast bowler from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), impressed in the ODI series against England. His good performance made him the best choice to replace Bumrah.
India will now depend on other experienced bowlers like Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh to lead their pace attack. Rana will have a big role in helping India perform well in the tournament.
Varun Chakravarthy Replaces Yashasvi Jaiswal
Another unexpected change in the Indian squad is the replacement of Yashasvi Jaiswal with Varun Chakravarthy. Jaiswal was in the original squad, but the selectors decided to strengthen their spin department instead of having an extra opener.
With Jaiswal out, India now has only two main openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. If one of them gets injured, India will have no direct backup in the playing XI.
Why Was Jaiswal Dropped?
- The team wanted more spin options.
- Varun Chakravarthy performed well in the England ODI series.
- Jaiswal is now a non-traveling reserve with Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube.

India’s Challenge in the Champions Trophy 2025
India will face tough competition in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The team’s balance has changed due to Bumrah’s absence. The team will rely on Shami, Arshdeep, and Harshit Rana for pace bowling.
India’s first match is against Bangladesh on February 20. The team must perform well in the group stage to qualify for the semi-finals.
Can India Win Without Bumrah?
- The team has strong batting with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Gill.
- Spin attack is powerful with Kuldeep, Sundar, and Jadeja.
- Pace attack is less experienced without Bumrah.
India will need all players to step up and perform. If the bowlers do well, India has a great chance to win.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is an important tournament for India. Losing Bumrah is a big setback, but Harshit Rana has an opportunity to prove himself. The addition of Varun Chakravarthy strengthens India’s spin attack.
India’s first match is on February 20 against Bangladesh. Fans hope the team will perform well and bring the trophy home!
