India lifted the Champions Trophy 2025 after defeating New Zealand in a thrilling final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Skipper Rohit Sharma’s explosive 76 runs and a superb performance by India’s spin attack powered the team to victory. Chasing 252, India won with six balls and four wickets to spare, securing their third Champions Trophy title.
How the IND vs NZ Final Unfolded
New Zealand’s Strong Start But India’s Spinners Dominate New Zealand openers Will Young and Rachin Ravindra started well, scoring 69 runs in the powerplay. However, India’s spinners quickly turned the game. Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Young for 15, while Kuldeep Yadav bowled Ravindra for 37. The big blow came when Kane Williamson was caught and bowled by Kuldeep for 11, leaving New Zealand struggling at 75/3.
Daryl Mitchell stabilized the innings with 63 runs, but wickets continued to fall. Tom Latham (14) and Glenn Phillips (34) couldn’t provide much support. Spinners Varun, Kuldeep, and Jadeja kept the pressure on, restricting the run rate and forcing risky shots.
Mitchell & Bracewell Push NZ to 251
In the final overs, Michael Bracewell provided a strong finish with an unbeaten 53 off 40 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes. Mitchell’s 63 off 101 balls ended when Shami dismissed him in the 46th over. With late boundaries, New Zealand reached 251/7.
India’s Bowling Performance:
- Varun Chakravarthy & Kuldeep Yadav: 2 wickets each
- Ravindra Jadeja: 1 for 30 in 10 overs
- Mohammed Shami: 1 wicket for 74 runs
Rohit Sharma’s Powerplay Assault
India’s chase started explosively with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill attacking from the first over. Rohit smashed a six on the second ball of the innings, and the duo put up a 100-run stand in 17 overs. Rohit reached his half-century in 41 balls.
However, the game shifted when Gill (31) was caught brilliantly by Phillips. Soon after, Virat Kohli (0) was trapped LBW by Bracewell. Rohit continued aggressively but was stumped for 76 in the 27th over, leaving India at 122/3.
India Holds Firm to Secure Victory
With India losing wickets quickly, Shreyas Iyer (48) and Axar Patel (29) played crucial innings. Their 61-run partnership steadied India before Iyer was dismissed in the 39th over. Patel fell in the 42nd over, but KL Rahul (34)* and Hardik Pandya (18) guided India close to victory.
With 12 runs needed in 15 balls, India lost Pandya, but Jadeja’s final boundary sealed the win in the 49th over.
New Zealand’s Bowling Performance:
- Mitchell Santner & Michael Bracewell: 2 wickets each
- Kyle Jamieson: 1 wicket
