How the Betting Racket Operated
The accused used two primary methods to run their betting network:
- Online Betting via Master ID
- Parveen Kochhar, the syndicate mastermind, bought a Master ID from a betting site.
- Created Super Master IDs and sold them to bettors.
- Offline Betting via Direct Calls
- Bettors placed live bets through phone calls.
- Rates fluctuated based on match conditions.
Illegal Betting Continues to Rise in India
Cricket is one of India’s most-followed sports, and illegal betting has become a multi-million industry. Parveen Kochhar, who previously owned a factory in Mundka, entered betting for quick financial gains. The syndicate operated for two years, with daily transactions exceeding Rs 1.5 lakh. Profits and losses varied between Rs 30,000 to 40,000 per matchday.
Need for Stricter Laws and Regulations
Despite multiple crackdowns, illegal betting remains a challenge. The rise of online platforms makes enforcement difficult, highlighting the need for stricter laws and better monitoring to protect the integrity of Indian sports.
