Wahab Riaz Tops the List

Wahab Riaz

Wahab Riaz, the Pakistani fast bowler, holds the unwanted record for conceding the most runs in a single innings in the ICC Champions Trophy. He gave away 87 runs in just 8.4 overs. The match was against India in Birmingham on June 4, 2017.

He failed to take a wicket, making the situation worse for his team. India capitalized, scoring freely throughout his spell. Riaz’s expensive performance remains a point of discussion.

Tinashe Panyangara’s Tough Day

Zimbabwe’s Tinashe Panyangara is next on the list. On September 10, 2004, he conceded 86 runs in 10 overs against England. This match was also played in Birmingham.

Panyangara managed to take one wicket, but his overall performance was below par. England’s batsmen dominated, making it a rough day for the Zimbabwean bowler. Despite his struggles, he completed his full quota of overs.

Lasith Malinga’s Struggle

Sri Lanka’s legendary pacer, Lasith Malinga, conceded 85 runs in his 10-over spell. This happened in a match against New Zealand on September 27, 2009, in Johannesburg. Although he took one wicket, Malinga was far from his usual best.

New Zealand’s batsmen played Malinga’s deliveries confidently. His signature yorkers were less effective that day. The high altitude at Johannesburg made things more difficult.

Lonwabo Tsotsobe’s Expensive Spell

South African bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe gave away 83 runs in 10 overs. This expensive spell came during a match against India on June 6, 2013, in Cardiff. Tsotsobe managed to take two wickets, but his economy rate was concerning.

India’s batsmen punished him for every loose ball. Tsotsobe struggled with his line and length. This outing remains one of his most forgettable matches.

Shane Bond’s Off Day

New Zealand’s Shane Bond, known for his pace, had a rough time on September 27, 2009, against Sri Lanka. He conceded 82 runs in 9 overs without taking any wickets. The game was played in Johannesburg, where batsmen ruled the day.

Sri Lankan batsmen took full advantage of Bond’s wayward deliveries. Despite his reputation, he couldn’t control the run flow. His pace worked against him in the thin air.

Jake Ball’s Forgettable Performance

Jake Ball of England also conceded 82 runs in his full quota of 10 overs. He played against Bangladesh on June 1, 2017, in London. Ball managed to get one wicket, but his figures were disappointing.

Bangladesh’s batsmen attacked Ball from the start. He struggled to find his rhythm. The English side had a hard time containing Bangladesh’s innings.

Rory Kleinveldt’s Costly Spell

Rory Kleinveldt, another South African bowler, gave away 81 runs in 10 overs. His match was against India on June 6, 2013, in Cardiff. Kleinveldt did not take any wickets, worsening his economy.

India’s power hitters dominated him throughout. He failed to execute his plans effectively. His spell added pressure to the South African team.

Shaminda Eranga Against England

Shaminda Eranga from Sri Lanka conceded 80 runs in 10 overs. The match was against England on June 13, 2013, in London. Eranga picked up two wickets, but his high economy overshadowed this.

England’s aggressive batting lineup made him suffer. He tried variations but found no success. It was a challenging outing for Eranga.

Wayne Parnell’s Expensive Figures

Wayne Parnell of South Africa had a tough time on September 22, 2009, against Sri Lanka. He conceded 79 runs but took three wickets in 10 overs. The match was played in Centurion, known for its high scores.

Parnell showed some control with his wickets. Yet, his expensive spell hurt his team’s chances. He struggled to maintain consistent pressure.

Adam Milne’s Challenging Spell

New Zealand’s Adam Milne also conceded 79 runs in his 10-over spell. He played against England on June 6, 2017, in Cardiff. Despite taking three wickets, he couldn’t stop the run flow.

Milne’s pace was both an advantage and a problem. England’s batsmen were ready to attack. His spell remains one of his less memorable performances.
