Australian batter David Warner, who had announced his retirement following the recent T20 World Cup, has bid farewell through an Instagram post, while still hinting at a possible return for the 2025 Champions Trophy if selected.

In his heartfelt Instagram message after the 2024 T20 World Cup, which he had confirmed as his final tournament for Australia, Warner shared his thoughts for the first time. The explosive opener expressed that although he is stepping away, he remains open to participating in another tournament.

“I will continue to play franchise cricket for a while, and I am also open to playing for Australia in the Champions Trophy if selected,” Warner wrote. Having retired from the 50-overs format after Australia’s World Cup win last year and played his final Test earlier this year against Pakistan, Warner reflected on his career.

Addressing his fans and teammates, Warner added, “I truly hope I have entertained you and changed cricket, especially tests, in a way where we scored a bit faster than others. To the players and staff, thanks for putting up with me. No more WhatsApp junk, your ears are now going to be free of my voice. This team has had unbelievable success the last few years, and long may this continue. Pat Cummins, Andrew Macdonald, and the staff have got this,” he added.

Warner’s illustrious career includes 383 games for Australia across all formats, amassing 18,995 runs and securing two ODI World Cups, a T20 World title, and a World Test Championship title.

David Warner, the dynamic Australian cricketer, has announced that his cricket chapter is closed, but he’s not entirely shutting the door on the sport. While Warner has indicated a step back from the game, he remains open to the possibility of playing in the 2025 Champions Trophy for Australia. This revelation has sparked excitement among fans, as Warner’s return could add a significant boost to the team’s performance.
