Brydon Carse, born on July 31, 1995, in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, is a right-arm fast bowler and right-handed batsman who represents England in international cricket. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches, Carse is known for his ability to consistently bowl at speeds around 91 mph (146 kph).

Carse’s cricketing journey began in South Africa, but he moved to England, leveraging his ancestral visa, and became a pivotal player for Durham County Cricket Club. His father, James Alexander Carse, was a Zimbabwean cricketer who played for Northamptonshire in England.

In 2021, Carse made his One Day International (ODI) debut for England, showcasing his potential on the international stage. He further expanded his repertoire by making his Test debut against Pakistan in October 2024, where he made an immediate impact. Notably, in December 2024, during England’s tour of New Zealand, Carse delivered a remarkable performance in Christchurch, taking ten wickets in the match, which were the best overseas Test match figures by an England bowler since 2012.

As of January 2025, Carse has played 19 ODIs, taking 23 wickets with an average of 35.91, including a five-wicket haul with best figures of 5/61. In Test cricket, he has participated in 5 matches, claiming 27 wickets at an impressive average of 19.85, with best bowling figures of 6/42.

Looking ahead, Carse has been named in England’s squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to commence in February. His inclusion is anticipated to bolster England’s pace attack, given his recent form and ability to generate genuine pace.

Beyond his bowling prowess, Carse has contributed with the bat in the lower order, adding depth to the team’s lineup. His journey from a young cricketer in South Africa to becoming a key player for England underscores his dedication and adaptability.
